Docents

The Petaluma Wildlife Museum is the world’s largest student run wildlife museum in the world. It is completely run by Petaluma High School students, under the direction of Marsi Wier. The museum docents care for the dozens of live animals, and hundreds of taxidermied animals. Their responsibilities include basic maintenance, animal husbandry, fundraising, feeding, and tours to hundreds of school children each year. Since the museum is also a classroom, hours open to the public are limited.

During the weekdays the museum is used as a classroom, and is unable to meet many of the demands from the public. The Museum’s Curator is also the docent's leader, mentor, and teacher. Each school day the docent periods hold class from 10:50-12:25, at which time they give tours, and take care of the museum.
